The WEC unveils the entry list for the 2024 season: 19 Hypercars and 18 GT3s

The revival of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) will continue in 2024, with the growth in the number of entrants in Hypercars, the disappearance of LMP2 and the appearance of a new category, GT3, which replaces GTE .

The WEC published on Monday the list of 37 entries for this new season, which we hope will be even more exciting than the one which concluded at the beginning of November in Bahrain. In the premier category, Hypercar, which combines LMH and LMDh, no less than 19 crews will be on the grid.

A Ferrari 499P for AF Corse

In addition to the two Toyota GR010s, the two official Ferrari 499Ps, the two Porsche 963s from Penske Motorsport, the two Peugeot 9X8s, the Cadillac V-Series. R official, the 963 of Team Jota and that of Proton Competition, eight new cars are appearing, notably a Ferrari 499P which will be entrusted to the AF Corse team (only one driver is announced for the moment, Robert Kubica).

There will also be two BMW M Hybrid V8s managed by the Belgian team Team WRT, two Alpine A424s, a Lamborghini SC63 from Iron Lynx, an Isotta Fraschini Tipo6-C, notably with Frenchman Jean-Karl Vernay at the wheel, and a second Porsche 963 for the British team Team Jota. Note that Vanwall is no longer involved, as is Glickenhaus.

Valentino Rossi in a BMW M4 GT3

As for the new GT3 category, it will be represented by 18 crews and no less than nine manufacturers: Aston Martin, BMW, Ferrari, McLaren, Lamborghini, Ford, Lexus, Corvette and Porsche. Among the drivers already announced, Valentino Rossi will drive a Team WRT BMW M4 GT3, and Jose Maria Lopez, ex-Toyota Hypercar driver, has signed up with the French team Akkodis ASP Team which will run two Lexus RCF GT3s. A great show, we hope, which will follow from the Prologue in Qatar, on February 24 and 25.
