The preparation for the big prestigious duel did not go as planned for Florian Grillitsch. The Austrian was recently unable to play in the league due to a bruised thigh, but he definitely wants to be back in the prestigious duel with Germany next Tuesday in Vienna. “To be honest, I had imagined it would be less bad. The entire healing process was laborious, but now I’m back on the right track. My goal is clearly to be able to be on the pitch again for the game against Germany,” assures the Hoffenheimer, who is on the rise again after returning to TSG and is about to build on old European Cup times with and with the Kraichgauer team.

“I want to be one of the best in the league in this position again”

“Anything is possible, but there’s no point in talking about it,” recommends the six-man, who has already attracted attention with a long-range goal from 55.6 meters away. “We simply can’t be satisfied, we have to constantly do our best “We have to perform well and also be calm in our style of play in order to win certain games on our side.”

The 28-year-old is specific about his personal goals. “I want to become one of the best in the league in this position again,” explains Grillitsch, who recently started again in the Austrian national team. “I also want to assert myself in the national team and have a clear expectation of myself to be in the first eleven .”

Most difficult phase of career

For the first time, Grillitsch speaks in detail in the big kicker interview about the most difficult phase of his career to date. After five years, his contract expired in the summer of 2022. Now the next step was to follow, but despite the move to Ajax Amsterdam, things didn’t go as planned. Grillitsch names the reasons and background for the negotiation odyssey at the time and also talks about his father, who was criticized at the time. “It was an extremely educational time.”

Comparison between Rangnick and Nagelsmann

Grillitsch also speaks in the kicker Thursday edition (from Wednesday evening in eMagazine) about the new competitive pressure in Hoffenheim, about the blocked transfer to AC Milan and about the two national coaches and former Hoffenheim coaches Ralf Rangnick and Julian Nagelsmann and draws a comparison. Under Nagelsmann, Grillitsch experienced Hoffenheim’s most successful times, including the Champions League. “If he approaches it in as much detail and complexity as he did back then in Hoffenheim, then it will certainly be difficult,” Grillitsch jokes, describing the differences in roles and content as a club and national coach.
