The port of Lázaro Cárdenas, in Mexico, has proven to be a moving giant. From January to September 2023, this port has transported 558,290 units of automotive cargo. This figure is impressive and it is expected that at the end of this year it will exceed the historical figure for 2022, which totaled 646,578 units.

The port of Lázaro Cárdenas occupies second place in the ranking of participation in Mexico in the mobilization of automotive cargo. This cargo is divided into 59% import, 40% export and 1% transshipment. The main brands that use this port are General Motors, Toyota, MG, Suzuki and Mitsubishi.

The automotive sector is one of the main areas of opportunity for the port, not only for the import and export of auto parts and finished products, but also for the assembly of automotive parts and spare parts.

To improve logistics, the port has considered both public and private investments. The concession of two areas within the port for the development of patios was put out to tender. The companies Amport and Hyundai will be in charge of these facilities, which will prevent the port from being a car storage area.

The port of Lázaro Cárdenas is also developing the Salida Sur or cabotage cargo project. This project consists of a different exit from the current one at customs, on the southern side to remove cabotage or voids.
