The most successful riders in the history of the MotoGP

Motors have always generated great passion and attraction in the world of sports. It is no coincidence that, especially for the Italian and European public, Formula 1 and MotoGP have always provided generations of winning drivers and teams, who still continue an indestructible legacy today. Precisely as regards motorbikes, we are getting ever closer to the end of this year’s World Championship, above all we observe in MotoGP rankings capable of always preserving a certain balance, with the fight at the top between Bagnaia (for reconfirmation as champion) and Martin ( to inherit the throne). But, throughout the history of professional motorcycle racing, who were the most successful riders?

The drivers who have won the most grand prix in history

Taking the Top 10 into account, we start with Britain’s Phil Read, who won a total of 52 professional motorcycle grand prix. The calculation obviously also takes place thanks to the counting of victories obtained in the suppressed classes. In particular, Read won 10 times in the 125 class, 27 in the 250 class, 4 in the 350 class and 11 in the 500 class. Ninth place ex-aequo for the Spaniard Daniel Pedrosa and the Australian Michael Doohan. In fact, both have won 52 grand prix. The Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo, on the other hand, is decidedly behind, taking home a total of 68 victories in his career. However, the British Mike Hailwood did better than him and boasts 76 career triumphs.

Entering the Top 5 we find the Swiss Rolf Biland, capable of winning 81 Grand Prix in the Sidecar field. At the foot of the podium (but with the possibility of reaching it) we find the multiple world champion Marc Marquez: the Spaniard has in fact won 85 GPs in total. Another Spaniard in third place, the great Angel Nieto: for him there are 90 victories accumulated in all the classes in which he took part. Second place for the timeless Valentino Rossi, who has achieved a total of 115 victories in his career. In this sense, however, the great Giacomo Agostini is still unattainable. The legendary Italian rider has in fact won a total of 122 motorcycle races, obviously always taking into account the suppressed classes. In particular, Agostini won 122 GPs, of which 54 in 350 and 68 in 500.

The riders who have won the most world titles in all classes

As regards the Top 10 riders who have won the most world titles in all motorcycle classes, in position number 10 we find Geoff Duke, Jim Redman and Klaus Enders with 6 victories each. Sharing also in the following positions, with 3 riders capable of winning 7 world titles: we are talking about Rolf Biland, Phil Read and John Surtees. At 8 World Cup wins, however, here is Marc Marquez, the second Spaniard in the ranking.

Valentino Rossi is part of the group of riders who have won 9 World titles: together with him Mike Hailwood and another Italian like Carlo Ubbiali. At 13 we find Angel Nieto, while the usual Giacomo Agostini is also first in this ranking, having managed to win a world title 15 times.
