Arthur Fils could lead the field in Jeddah
When the ATP formulated the idea of the #NextGen Masters, those responsible probably did not think that some of the aspirants for a place at the end of the season of the best eight U21 players would do so well during the season that they would also qualify for the ATP would qualify for the finals. Alexander Zverev was the first to play in London instead of Milan. And this year, two #NextGen players, Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune, have been selected for the field in Turin. Arthur Fils as number one?
The same applies to Lorenzo Musetti, who is currently still employed in Sofia. Musetti hasn’t looked particularly fresh in the last few weeks (and had to face Grigor Dimitrov twice in a row), and the Italian will soon be a father for the first time. And, don’t forget, Musetti has already had his #NextGen Masters experience.
Realistically speaking, Arthur Fils could lead the field, followed by Dominic Stricker and Luca van Assche. Then come Flavio Cobolli, Hamad Medjedovic and Alex Michelsen, three players who have already left their mark on the ATP tour. It will be difficult to let the local color flourish, as in Milan. In Italy there was always a young local who competently complemented the field. Such a player is missing in Saudi Arabia.
