On Monday, the Hakro Merlins Crailsheim caused a stir with the first coach dismissal in the current basketball Bundesliga season. After only one win in the first seven games and the resulting last place in the table, head coach Nikola Markovic (41) was eliminated. The successor is already ready with the Finnish Jussi Laakso (47).

Football: On average, there have been nine head coaches flying per season since the 2019/2020 season. The most layoffs occurred in 2020/21 and 2022/23: twelve coaches were fired in each case.

Basketball: Things are comparatively quiet in the easyCredit Bundesliga. An average of 4.2 coaches have been laid off there since 2019/2020. Negative record: 2021/22 with six early coaching changes.

► Ice hockey: In the DEL, only 3.4 head coaches have had to look for a new club early since 2019/2020. The new head coach at the Iserlohn Roosters since Monday evening is Canadian Doug Shedden (62), who succeeds Greg Poss (58/USA), who was released in October, at the bottom of the table.

► Handball: In the Liqui Moly Bundesliga the focus is mainly on consistency. Since 2019/2020, an average of only 2.6 trainers have been flying here per season.

► Two particularly successful examples: Bennet Wiegert (41) has been head coach in Magdeburg since December 2015 and has since won the 2016 DHB Cup, the Club World Cup treble (2021-2023), the 2021 European League, the 2022 German Championship and the Champions League 2023.

Filip Jicha (41) has been sitting on the bench as coach in Kiel since 2019/2020 and has since won three German championships (2020, 2021, 2023), the 2020 Champions League title, the DHB Cup (2022) and four times DHB Supercup (2020-2023).

Conclusion: Handball coaches in Germany can look forward to having the safest job and their success proves them right!
