FRANKFURT – Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill advised Miami’s defense ahead of Sunday’s game against his former team to “mark (Travis) Kelce.”
Hill called the Kansas City Chiefs tight end “the dynamo of this team,” who has a knack for being overlooked when star quarterback Patrick Mahomes tries to escape the clutches of the opposing defense.
“I just told the guys to mark Kelce,” Hill said Thursday after the Dolphins’ practice. If you allow Kelce to stand out…he’s kind of the dynamo of this team, and Pat (Mahomes) is his engine. And if he spots Kelce and Kelce catches a two-yard pass, then he’ll find a way to step up and carry this team (on their shoulders). »
Hill said that in his six seasons with the Chiefs, Missouri’s wide receiver group was trained to react quickly when Mahomes moves behind the line of scrimmage.
“They have a PowerPoint file on it, very detailed,” said Hill, in his second season with the Dolphins. It’s crazy, it’s ridiculous. They say, ‘If Pat goes this way, then you’ll have to do this, or that.’ »
Don’t ask him what he thinks about Kelce’s relationship with American singer Taylor Swift, though.
Hill didn’t dare get wet, after his teammate Jaylen Waddle had declared the day before that he himself was a ‘Swiftie’.
“I’m not going to get into that, buddy. It’s dangerous,” he joked when asked if he was a Swift supporter.
Hill, who has 1,014 passing yards so far this season, is the first player in 52 years to reach 1,000 after the first eight games of a season.
He said he would have preferred to face his former teammates at Arrowhead Stadium – the real home of the Chiefs, who will instead play at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt on Sunday. Hill nevertheless considers this visit to Germany to be a springboard.
“We have the opportunity to become international stars. It is also an opportunity to develop our own brand image,” he stressed.
And he will also have a few opportunities to blow the whistle to his former teammates.
“I can’t wait to see Pat, Kelce, those guys again,” Hill said. It’s going to be sort of like a backyard football game with your brothers.”
