The Best Archers in Switzerland Take Aim at Unique 3D Targets

The best archers in Switzerland will compete this weekend at the Forum de l’Arc de Moutier. The 2,000 square meters were transformed into a giant archery course, with a realistic setting dotted with tree trunks, foliage and fake animals serving as targets. Three-dimensional targets, a major asset of the event. “3D targets really add something compared to flat targets. Our gaze is directed elsewhere,” explains Jean-René Wolfsberger, vice-president of the Arc et Forêt Tavannes club. It was the Tavannais club that set up this unique event in Switzerland. In addition to the shooting competition which will take place this weekend, the space will be available to the public. Introductory group archery lessons will take place on request.

A neat decor

All the members of the Arc et Forêt Tavannes club pitched in to create a decor worthy of a natural history museum. The targets, divided into 28 stations, are carefully surrounded by branches, foliage and wood chips. The targets are life-size animals made of thick foam, specially designed for shooting. “It’s important to have an attractive decor,” adds Jean-René Wolfsberger.

Harmless hunters

In Switzerland, target archery is the only way to practice this sport. In fact, bow hunting is prohibited in our country. But archers do not expressly have real animals in their sights, they would even be rather reluctant to kill an animal, in any case René Wolfberger: “I would rather be a gatherer than a hunter,” he smiles, “the idea is above all to take advantage to spend time in nature. /jse
