The Arjonilleros Succumb to Rinconada-Sevilla in a Close 3-4 Match

The Arjonilleros lost against Rinconada-Sevilla by a tight 3 to 4.

For very little. That could be the summary of yesterday’s match played at the Municipal Juan Antonio Cuesta de Arjonilla, in which the local team faced Rinconada-Sevilla.

The duel started at 5:30 p.m. with the mixed doubles match. Joan Monroy and Carmen Lara lost to Carlos Piris and Claudia Leal (3-11, 5-11, 5-11). Next, the gender doubles began, in which Arjonilla also had no luck.

The first to finish was the men’s doubles in which Joan Monroy and Ernesto Baschwitz were also defeated against Carlos Piris and Jaume Pérez (5-11, 10-11 and 10-11). The women’s doubles was the longest match of the match. The Arjonilla players, Anne Fulgsang and Laura Floj faced Claudia Leal and Leona Lee. After the first four games the equality was maximum, having to go to the last and final game.

In the latter, fortune fell on the Sevillian side that won the match (8-11, 11-9, 10-11, 11-10 and 10-11).

The match was complicated for Arjonilla after coming out 0-3 in the doubles matches, being forced to win all four singles matches to win the match.

In the first of the women’s singles, Laura Floj from Arjonilla began by winning the first game, but Rinconada’s player, Leona Lee, turned the score around (11-9, 7-11, 3-11 and 10-11) giving her the fourth and final point for the visiting team.

Tomás Toledano of Arjonilla, in the first men’s singles, achieved a great victory against the Frenchman Sacha Leveque, whom he defeated in four games (11-7, 11-6, 5-11 and 11-10).
With 1 to 4 we reach the last individual matches.

In the women’s event, Anne Fulgsang defeated Laura Molina (11-1, 11-6 and 11-4) and in the men’s event Ernesto Baschwitz defeated Jaume Pérez (11-8, 11-3 and 11-4), thus closing the meeting with a 3 to 4.

Defeat of the Jaenenses who fall to second position in the group B classification.

For Antonio Pons, Arjonilla coach, “we have missed the opportunity to win at home
against a Rinconada that did not have its full squad. It has also been a very
equal as I think all the matches we play will be. It’s been a shame no
manage to close the women’s doubles match that would have meant leaving with a little more life
to face the individual ones.”

Arjonilla’s next rival will be San Fernando Valencia and it will be played in Valencian lands
on Saturday, November 18 at 5:30 p.m.
