The 2023 Italian Kata Championship: FVG Judokas Shine with 7 Medals Won

The 2023 Italian Kata Championship ended in Siziano (Pavia) and 152 athletes (76 pairs) competed in the most important national competition of the year to earn the title of Italian A1 and A2 Champions and winners of the U18 National Final .

For the FVG judokas it was an excellent day of competition, with 7 medals won.

The loot won by our fellow countrymen amounts to four gold, two silver and one bronze.

Going into specifics, these are the first places of Marika Sato and Fabio Polo in Kodokan Goshin Jutsu A1, Riccardo Cipollari and Davide Mauri in Katame No Kata A2, Marino Gregori and Michela Tarlao in Kime No Kata A2 and Francesco Piva and Cristian Bone in Nage No Kata Junior.

Second place instead for Gino Gianmarco Stefanel and Alessandro Cugini in the Nage No Kata A1 and Gianluca Rainis and Tommaso Rattà in the Katame No Kata junior; closing out third place for Matteo Nadin Marchesi and Francesco Piva again in the junior Katame No Kata.

“At the national team championship we obtained 4 golds and a bronze by winning the ranking, at today’s national championships, in Siziano, the couples from our region obtained as many golds, two silvers and a bronze plus a seventh and an eighth place. – commented the regional manager of the Kata Alessandro Furchì – Obviously there were more categories to compete in but those who came to compete for a medal did not disappoint, in fact the already established pairs Sato-Polo and Stefanel-Cugini are confirmed, winning in the veterans Gregori and Tarlao in their category. The new Cipollari-Mauri couple wins with an excellent score but above all the three medals for the under 18s, a gold, a silver and a bronze which bring our couples onto the podium also in the Grand Prix ranking, give us hope. What can I say, the boys expressed themselves well and had some satisfaction, this was also the impression of the European referee Giuliano Casco present.

Now more and more aware of the value achieved we will have to prepare for the 2024 season, for my part I believe in this group and compatibly with everyone’s commitments we will try to grow further in quality and number.”

What made the event even more prestigious was the presence of Maestro Franco Capelletti, 10th dan, President of the IJF Kata Commission and of the National Vice President of the Judo sector, Maestro Giuseppe Matera, who followed the competition and awarded the athletes who they earned the medals.
