Texas Rangers Make History with First World Series Win in Franchise’s 63-Year History

Phoenix, United States | The Texas Rangers won the World Series this Wednesday for the first time in the franchise’s 63-year history, defeating the Arizona D’Backs 5-0 to complete an 11-0 streak in the playoffs as visitors.

The Texan team took the best of seven games 4-1. The Rangers were undefeated in 11 games away from their home in the Dallas suburbs, capped by a three-game sweep of the D’Backs.

The Rangers in these playoffs on the road were immense with two wins in Tampa Bay, two in Baltimore, four in Houston and three now in Phoenix against the D’Backs.

For their part, the D’Backs suffered their first defeat in the World Series, after winning the 2001 one by surprising the New York Yankees in their only previous appearance.

The D’Backs’ task was very difficult because, since 1985, the only team that came back from 3-1 down to win the World Series was the 2016 Chicago Cubs.

The Rangers began as the Washington Senators in 1961, but after one winning campaign in 11 seasons, they moved to Texas in 1972.

They reached the World Series in 2010 and 2011, losing to the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals, respectively.

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy won his fourth crown after having won the biggest trophy in 2010, 2012 and 2014 with the San Francisco Giants.

The game was won by all-star Nathan Eovaldi (5-0), his fifth victory in these playoffs and ninth overall in postseason games.

All-star slugger Corey Seager was named the Series MVP. The star slugger ranks second with 19 home runs in the postseason, behind Hall of Famer Derek Jeter with 20.

Seager also achieved a sixth circuit hit in the World Series with the four he hit in the current Fall Classic.

The D’Backs came out aggressive and put runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings, but they were left wanting by going 0-for-8 in those situations.

For their part, in the fifth, the Rangers still had not been able to decipher the deliveries of the star Zac Gallen.

Gallen posted another zero thanks in part to two excellent catches made by Cuban Lourdes Gurriel deep in left field, which earned the star pitcher’s applause.

The D’Backs threatened again in the fifth when they loaded the bases with walks to the Dominican Ketel Marte and Tommy Pham, and an interspersed single by Christian Walker, but starter Eovaldi dominated the Cuban Gurriel from shortstop to first for the third out.

All-star Seager gave Eovaldi the first hit of the game in the seventh inning and rookie Evan Carter followed with a double before Mitch Garver gave him a one-run RBI single.

Finally, the damage was minimal as they surprised Carter between third and home and forced Jonah Heim to fly out to the catcher.

The Rangers loaded the bases in the eighth but Kevin Ginkel got a first-round relief to leave the score at that.

The ninth inning was the lucky inning as the Rangers exploded their bats and scored four runs.

Hits by Josh Jung, Nathaniel Lowe and Heim and a home run by Marcus Semien were the icing on the cake for the Rangers.

“It’s just emotional,” Semien said after the game. “Everything we’ve worked for is for this moment.”

The setback was for fellow star Gallen (2-3), to some extent undeservedly, as he worked six and a third innings with three hits allowed and one run.
