For a long time he was Jannik Sinner’s feared opponent, but on Saturday Daniil Medvedev had to admit defeat to the Sesto superstar once again. There were turbulent scenes during the match.

Daniil Medvedev is known in the tennis scene not only for his extraordinary skills, but also for the fact that he always messes with the audience. At the Masters 1000 tournament in Paris, for example, he showed the fans the middle finger. And on Saturday in the semi-finals of the ATP Finals there was also a dispute with the spectators, who were almost exclusively in favor of their favorite Jannik Sinner.

After Medvedev conceded a break in the third set, it became incredibly loud in the Pala Alpitour in Turin. The mood was also fueled by the Russian’s reaction: first he threw his racket to the ground, then he gestured wildly towards the fans and even asked a spectator to come down onto the field. It goes without saying that the atmosphere was really heated afterwards. Sinner didn’t let that bother him and won the match with an outstanding performance. He is now in the final of the ATP Finals.

After the game, Medvedev blamed himself for the dispute with the fans. “When I conceded the break, my head switched off. Nothing special happened, I was just nervous and frustrated because I threw away my chance with a double fault. The people applauded, that’s true, but that was probably more due to Jannik, who they celebrated for the break,” said a fair Medvedev, who otherwise had a good feeling with the fans in Turin. “They have been very correct this week, it is normal for them to cheer for their favorite in a match like this. I repeat: I made the mistake.” These are strong words from Daniil Medvedev, who also showered roses on Jannik Sinner.
