Tennis: WTA Finals; Pegula beats Sabalenka and flies to the semifinals – Swimming

First verdicts in Cancun, Mexico, on day 2 of the 2023 WTA Finals. On the Italian night in the Bacalar Group, victories for Jessica Pegula and Elena Rybakina, fifth and fourth seeds respectively.


The American Pegula, n.5 WTA and fifth seed, beat the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, n.1 in the ranking and seeding, 6-4 6-3, in just under an hour and a half of the match to defend the world scepter and becoming the first player in this edition to reach the semi-finals (given Rybakina’s success on Sakkari).


In the other match the Kazakh Rybakina, n.4 in the ranking and seeding, won 6-0 6-7(4) 7-6(2), after a battle of almost two and a half hours, over Maria Sakkari, n.9 WTA and eighth seed, decreeing the Greek’s elimination from the games.


Tomorrow Rybakina will play for the semi-finals with Sabalenka.
