Tennis: winner for the 7th time, Novak Djokovic becomes the most successful player at the Masters

One more record in Novak Djokovic’s bag. By flying over the final of the ATP Masters against Jannik Sinner (6-3, 6-3) on Sunday in Turin, the Serbian won the masters tournament for the seventh time in his career. He thus overtakes Roger Federer, until now co-holder of the record for victories in this tournament, and further establishes his domination over the rest of the circuit.

Manhandled by Sinner (4th in the ATP rankings) during a thrilling group match (7-5, 6-7 [5]7-6 [2]), “Nole” took a resounding revenge, without leaving a shadow of hope to his young Italian rival of 22 years old, despite being supported by the Turin public. But faced with a Djokovic transfigured by the idea of becoming a little more legendary, Sinner could not do much other than endure. Expeditious during the first set (39 minutes) thanks to an imperial serve, the Serb took control from the start in the second set, inflicting a break on his opponent on his first throw in. Despite a burst of pride at 2 -4 in a game lasting more than 15 minutes, Sinner was unable to reverse the trend.

Already winner last year, Djokovic retains his crown, which marks his formidable season. Winner of the Australian Open, Roland-Garros and the US Open and finalist at Wimbledon, he missed the Grand Slam by a hair. Even on alternating current at this Masters, as evidenced by his difficulties against Hubert Hurkacz or Holger Rune in the pool, he was able, as usual, to transcend himself in the tough matches to scatter Carlos Alcaraz (6-3, 6-2) and therefore, Jannik Sinner.
