Tennis legend Boris Becker will continue to coach the young Danish star Holger Rune next year. He confirmed this on Sunday.
Boris Becker remains the coach of the young Danish star Holger Rune. The tennis legend confirmed this on Sunday on X (formerly Twitter). Becker writes: “I am very happy to continue my collaboration with Holger Rune in 2024. We will put together a team around Holger to get the best out of him, on and off the field.”
According to consistent Danish media reports, Rune’s mother had already confirmed the continued collaboration on Saturday. “We will organize the calendar next week,” said Aneke Rune about the plans for 2024.
Becker has been looking after the 20-year-old since October; under the guidance of the six-time German Grand Slam winner, the Wimbledon quarter-finalist’s form showed an upward trend again after a long dip in performance. On Thursday Rune, number eight in the world, was eliminated in the group phase of the ATP Finals in Turin.
The three-time Wimbledon winner Becker, who enjoys an excellent reputation in the scene as a coach, celebrated numerous successes as coach of the Grand Slam record champion Novak Djokovic (36) between 2013 and 2016 and brought the Serb back to the top of the ATP rankings guided.
Due to his new role as a coach, it is becoming increasingly unlikely that Becker will continue his work as an expert for the TV channel Eurosport at the Australian Open in Melbourne.
