Suwa Tokyo University of Science Softball Team Set to Compete in National Tournament

Players from the Suwa Tokyo University of Science softball baseball team visited Chino City Hall to report their participation in the national tournament.

The Suwa Tokyo University of Science (Chino City) softball club will represent the prefecture in the 46th All Japan University Softball Baseball Championship (19th-24th, Kurazushi Stadium, Sakai City, Osaka, etc.). They won the prefectural tournament in September and earned their first national ticket. On the 14th, 15 players visited Chino City Hall and expressed their enthusiasm to Mayor Atsushi Imai, saying, “We want to do our best.”

In the regional tournament, four teams compete in a round-robin format, with the top three teams competing in the final tournament. Suwa Tokyo University of Science defeated Matsumoto University 10-6 in the final match and won the championship. 23 teams participated in the national tournament. Suwato University of Science’s first match will be on the 21st in the second round, where they will face the winner of the Kinki and Hokkaido teams, and if they make it through, they will advance to the top eight.

Thirteen players and two managers visited on this day, and the representative expressed his determination. Captain Ibuki Kamisunosuke (21) expressed his aspirations, saying, “I want to make it to the top eight and leave a mark on my university.I want to play with a smile, have fun, and have no regrets.” Coach Kazuto Onodera (20), who is also a player, said, “Everyone gets along well, and we’re all on a baseball team.This is our first attempt at a national tournament, so we have nothing to lose, so we want to do our best.”

Mayor Imai expressed his hopes for the success, saying, “The hard work of local university students is encouraging and I am proud of them.I hope they will do their best to energize the region and the prefecture.”
