Sophia Frey and Magdalena Klöckl Shine at Gallia Smurf Tournament

Sophia Frey and Magdalena Klöckl as medal guarantees

At the start of carnival on November 11th, 2023, five Wimpassing judoka took on the challenge of proving their skills at the Gallia Smurf tournament in Gallneukirchen (Upper Austria). Almost 200 athletes from 21 clubs from three nations took part in this very strong international tournament. Our purple fighters were looked after by trainer Katharina Schöffauer.

As in previous tournaments, Sophia Frey (U12, -32kg) presented herself as particularly strong and seemingly invincible. She confidently won all four fights early with Ippon and gave her opponents absolutely no chance. With this outstanding performance she once again secured first place.

In the U10 age group, Magdalena Klöckl (-28 kg) made it onto the podium. In a total of four fights and two very hard-fought victories, she managed to bring home third place. Despite her young age, she already shows a great combination of good tactical sense and fighting heart.

The performance of Felix Fischer (U10, -27kg) with two wins in his weight class with 20 (!) participants should also be highlighted. He failed in the repechage round more because of the age-appropriate judo children’s rules than actually because of his opponent.

The Smurfs Lara Strebinger and Vanessa Supin (both U10, -32 kg), who unfortunately did not place but who had gained further experience, also continued to support their teammates from the edge of the mat.
Overall, the performance and the progress shown are more than satisfactory. But above all, the team spirit among the violet children is nice to observe.
