At the final whistle, Lens snatched a 1-0 victory at home against Olympique Marseille (1-0) on the twelfth matchday of Ligue 1 and scuttled Rino Gattuso’s team’s ambitions of a comeback in the standings.
Uninspired after their European commitments this week, the two clubs were heading for an emotionless draw before defender Jonathan Gradit scored the winner for the home side from an Angelo Fulgini corner in the 90th minute.
With 16 points, Lens moves up from 10th to 6th position.
Olympique remains on 13 points, in tenth place, but with a game to recover against Fabio Grosso’s Olympique Lyon.
Gattuso has gained four points in the league since his arrival as coach of the Marseille club, suffering his third defeat.
