Senegalese Football Federation Waives Referral, Questions FIFA Actions

Surely to put Fifa “at ease”, which is in a rather embarrassing position in the Yanis Issoufou affair, the Senegalese Football Federation (Fsf) decided to waive its referral through a letter, dated 23 November 2023, addressed to the Director of the U17 World Cup Competition.

But in the process, the Fsf did not fail to titillate the world body. Indeed, in his correspondence, the Secretary General of the Fsf, responding to a response letter from Fifa and referring to article 9.3 of the regulations of the said competition, wonders: “How can a team make a five-year claim? days before a competition on a fraud of which it is unaware and which is only established from the moment when the player actually participated in a match of said competition and not before?

“Removing the player does not change anything, because the violation has already been committed”

The Federal continued: “The fact of withdrawing the player for the matches following the violation of the regulations does not change anything, because the violation has already been recorded.”

Returning to the subject of its letter of denunciation, the FSF clarified: “Our duty was to denounce to Fifa a fact brought to our attention by the French press on the day of our round of 16 match against France. But we have no control over the follow-up that Fifa intends to give. On the contrary, the elements recounted in your email suggest the meaning of the decision which is not to sanction.”

Note that the FSF never asked for the match against France to be won.
The player in question, Yanis Issoufou, did not participate in the match. As a result, Senegal has no interest in taking action. And even if Fifa decided to disqualify France, it was its next opponent in the quarterfinals, Uzbekistan, which would benefit.
