Second pro fight for Moreno Fendero Tuesday in Montreal

For his second professional fight in four rounds, Moreno Fendero (24 years old, 1.73 m) faces the Mexican Cristian Lopez Lozano (2 wins, 2 losses), Tuesday evening at the Montreal casino (live on www.punchinggrace.com) . In the featured fight, Canadian Steve Claggett (34 years old, 36 wins, 2 draws, 7 losses) will defend his North American super-lightweight title against Mexican Miguel Madueno (25 years old, 30 wins, 1 loss).

Bronze medalist in the -75 kg category at the Amateur World Championships last May, Fendero turned professional, his category no longer being Olympic. Like his compatriot Christian Mbilli, the French left-hander signed up with Eye of the Tiger, the promotion company of Canadian Camille Estephan. For his professional debut, he beat Mexican Uziel Buenos on points on September 8 at the Lac-Leamy casino, near Ottawa. But, unlike Mbilli who moved to Montreal in 2017, Fendero only comes to Quebec for his final preparation.

“I’ve been back there since October 8,” explains the young Frenchman. I’m in an apartment with a lot of shops around and I prepare my own meals. I visited the city a little, took the metro and the bus, I went to the Museum of Fine Arts. I am a two-minute walk from the training rooms: the fitness room in the morning for running or bodybuilding, and the boxing room in the afternoon. »

The same coaches as Mbilli in Canada

Just like Mbilli, he discovered Canadian temperatures… “It snowed and it’s -3°, but I don’t have any problems with that,” remarks Fendero. Life here is changing for me, but it suits me very well. »

Like Mbilli, he is coached by Canadians Marc Ramsay, Samuel Décarie and Luc-Vincent Ouellet. “They particularly make me work on my defenses and the control of my attacks,” notes Fendero. And I had sparring partner sessions, each time over four rounds, two to three times a week. These are tough sessions, but I feel better and better. »

The Frenchman, who competed at -75 kg as an amateur, had his first pro fight concluded at 74,600 kg. The second is at 73,800 kg. “The goal is to reach middleweight, -72.574 kg,” he explains. And for my next fight, in January, I will get even closer. »
