Seahawks Defensive Tackle Jarran Reed Finds Success in Return to Seattle

The Alabama alum began his career with three sacks across his first-two seasons, before breaking out in 2018 with 10.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries. Spending his first five seasons in Seattle, Reed accounted for 22 sacks, 22 tackles for loss and 194 tackles.

In 2021, Reed joined the Kansas City Chiefs via free agency, recording 2.5 sacks over 17 games before joining the Green Bay Packers the following season. When asked about returning to Seattle after signing this offseason, an emphatic Reed discussed his career coming full circle back to the Pacific Northwest.

“This is home for me,” said Reed. “I was drafted here, I played here for five years. I’ve been gone for a little bit, but now I’m back.”

And in reuniting with former teammates like linebacker Frank Clark and Bobby Wagner, Reed has become a valued veteran presence on Seattle’s defense through the midway point. The 31-year-old has already accounted for 4.0 sacks from the interior, his highest total since recording 6.5 for Seattle in 2020. Reed’s four tackles for loss through eight games are just one shy of his total of five for the 2022 season, adding on 26 tackles and a fumble recovery. Per ESPN’s advanced analytics, Reed ranks No.14 amongst defensive tackles in pass rush win rate (13%) while tying for third-highest double team percentage (70%).
