Fabio Aiello should consider filling out a lottery ticket soon, because the coach of SC Isaria Unterföhring announced a surprise and he promptly delivered. After several sensations, his Oberliga wrestlers won 19:16 (11:8) at TSV Burgebrach and moved away from the last two places in the relegation battle.

Unterföhring – At halftime after five fights, a significant deficit was to be expected, perhaps even with five defeats. But by then the unthinkable had happened three times. In the heavyweight division, Isaria had expected a narrow victory for Csaba Ubornyak, but he shouldered his opponent after almost two minutes without scoring. The action with which the Hungarian attacked his opponent was a crazy mixture of wrestling, judo and the primal force of heavyweight wrestling. A small miracle was the shoulder victory in the Greek weight class up to 98 kilos with Vincent Graf’s first action against U23 vice world champion Ion Demian. Nobody expected that.

Felix Kirchhoff set off some crazy fireworks between the big boys after a month-long injury break. He led 10-0 after one minute, but then didn’t blindly go for the five points that were still missing for an early victory. Kirchhoff fought tactically, was prepared for weakening strength and achieved a 15:6 at the finish with manageable risks.

After the break there were three defeats to give the hosts a 16:11 lead. The Unterföhringen team actually had a chance of winning twice, but suffered narrow tactical defeats. It was clear for SC Isaria that there was a 99 percent chance of winning the last two fights early. That also happened, but Bohdan Kabyn quickly found themselves 5-0 behind. “It was still clear that he would win,” said coach Fabio Aiello later. Kabyn first ran into the counterattack and then shouldered the opponent – officially 4:5 behind. Markos Theodoridis then only needed a point win and that was never in danger. Eleven seconds before the end he shouldered the opponent for an 11-0 lead. This was SC Isaria Unterföhring’s biggest victory after promotion to the top league. If only two teams are relegated, then the promoted team from the north of Munich should be able to safely stay in the league. (NICO BAUER)
