Santarcangelo’s San Martino Fair Culminates with Grand Finale and Historic Bridge Restrictions

Grand finale today in Santarcangelo for the San Martino fair. Sunday has always been the highlight and the one with the greatest influx of visitors: today 100 thousand are expected. Yesterday too there were many people, thanks to the good weather, with thousands of people arriving in the city since the morning. As usual, there were traffic problems and long queues on the Via Emilia and other roads, also due to wild parking. But today it will be worse and for this reason the presence of local police officers and volunteers has been increased to manage traffic and try to limit inconvenience. Many law enforcement officers deployed for the safety of the fair. There are few (at least so far) illegal vendors along the streets.

Among the events not to be missed today, the traditional rolling pin challenge organized by the Pro Loco of Santarcangelo: the ‘Palio della piada’. The race, now in its 24th edition, will be held as always in Piazza Ganganelli. There are two competitions: one is reserved for ‘azdore’ and amateur chefs, and will start around 2pm. At 5pm ‘La Pida di Bècch’ will then be awarded: it is the prize given to the best piadina produced by taverns and piadinerias in Santarcangelo. But on the program today there are also guided tours to discover the historic center, while at the Sferisterio (from 9.30am) those who want can try their hand at archery tests organized by the Draconis – Mons Jovis Company.

Once the San Martino fair is over, the alternating one-way system on the bridge over the Marecchia will return for two days. Traffic restrictions are necessary for the resurfacing works on the bridge after the consolidation works concluded just a few days ago. For this reason, both tomorrow and Tuesday the alternating one-way system will return on the via Trasversale Marecchia bridge. During peak traffic times, local police officers will also be present on site. The construction site will continue with the construction of the cycle/pedestrian walkway, which will not lead to significant changes to the road system.
