The Padres did not provide a reason for Seidler’s death. But in September, a Padres post on social media X said Seidler had undergone medical treatment a month earlier and was in the recovery phase. Seidler said in the statement: “I am grateful for the medical care I have received and the caring support of my family. Although I will not be able to watch the remainder of the season on the court, I am watching all the games and I look forward to playing again in 2024. Come together and celebrate the 20th anniversary of our beautiful ballpark.”

Seidler is the third generation of the O’Malley family, which once owned the Los Angeles Dodgers. His maternal grandfather owned the Dodgers, and later his mother and his uncle, Peter O’Malley, once co-owned the Dodgers.

Seidler grew up watching baseball games. Seidler, his family and other partners purchased the Padres in 2012. In 2020, he acquired a majority stake in the Padres and became the owner.

Seidler dreamed of the Padres reaching the MLB World Series. Although its spending on star players ranks among the highest in Major League Baseball, the Padres have never been able to qualify for the championship game. The Padres have only reached the World Series twice since their inception, most recently in 1998.

Seidler has type 1 diabetes. He is also a two-time survivor of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He is survived by his wife Sheel and three children, as well as his mother and nine brothers and sisters. #
