Sailing: the Class40 and Ocean Fifty of the Transat Jacques Vabre blocked in Lorient until Monday

During a press point this Wednesday, Francis Le Goff, the director of the Transat Jacques Vabre and Gildas Gautier, the organizer, announced that there would be no possibility of departure for the Ocean Fifty and Class40 before…next Monday. Due to difficult weather conditions, these boats are all stuck in Lorient

“There is a possible window on Sunday for the IMOCAs in Le Havre but it remains committed,” admitted Francis Le Goff. The race director added that it was not impossible, in the event of a start for these three classes, to add a southern point in order to avoid sending the boats into conditions that were still too complicated on the Atlantic.

“We are disappointed and frustrated that the IMOCAs did not leave on Sunday. We don’t want to argue, we work with the Imoca class to do better and well” added Gildas Gautier. Obviously, all these changes have a significant financial cost for the organizers of the event.

On the third day of racing, only five ships are in the race out of the 95 entered: only the five Ultimates are actually in the fight near Madeira, where they are slowed down due to a lack of wind.
