Rugby World Cup: the impressive welcome of the Springboks on their return to South Africa

They are back ! After their fourth world crown won this Saturday evening in Saint-Denis against New Zealand (11-12), the South African rugby internationals were welcomed like heroes by a delirious crowd waiting for them at the airport international OR Tambo in Johannesburg, this Tuesday morning.

In the video published this Tuesday on the Springboks’ social networks, we can see South African captain Siya Kolisi emerging from the airport gates and brandishing the Webb Ellis Cup in front of a dense crowd, adorned in the green and yellow colors of the Springbok jersey. Boks and waving the country’s flags, spread for several hours on all levels of the airport, screaming with happiness.

A four-day trophy tour has been planned to celebrate the team and display the trophy, which will therefore remain for four more years in its South African home, where it has already resided since 2019. Jacques Nienaber and his 33 world champions will visit the five largest cities in the country: Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Soweto and Pretoria.

The players will then return to their daily lives at the club, crowned with a new status as world champion at the end of a competition which saw them master, at the end of very close matches each time, France, England and the All Blacks.
