Robinson Cano Begins New Stage in Middle East Baseball League, Jokingly Calls Bartolo Colon “Grandfather”

Robinson Canó began a new stage in his career, as part of the Middle East Baseball United league, which he arrived after his time in MLB. And it was in this new terrain that the Dominican became news, after calling “grandfather” to Bartolo Colón, with whom he was training.

The second baseman was sharing space with the pitcher at a physical training camp in Dubai, and at one point, in front of the cameras, he said: “He’s my Grandpa, he’s my grandfather”, jokingly. Then he asks Columbus: “How old are you? 55?”

Later, the former Atlanta Braves player assured his colleague that he was much younger, because he supposedly has “21 years”although of course that is not true, because he recently turned 41. The dialogue made clear the great relationship they have, especially after having been teammates in Major League Baseball.

After his arrival in the new league, Canó commented on how he sees the present of baseball and explained: “Now you see baseball players, when they reach 32, 33 years old, if they don’t play at a high level, they won’t even have the opportunity to play in the Major Leagues.”. On the other hand, he said that his incursion into the Middle East will serve to “open the door to many boys.”

The doors to the MLB may already be closed for the one born in San Pedro de Macorís, although it is not what he wants: “If God gives me the opportunity I would like to return to the Major Leagues, who wouldn’t?”, he asked publicly. On the other hand, he stated: “I haven’t thought about retirement yet. We are still fine, there is life and health and the same love and desire to play, knowing that everything will one day come to an end.”
