Eintracht Frankfurt loses against VfB Stuttgart. Before kick-off there was a violent riot by the Frankfurt fans. Iron bars fly, four people have to go to the clinic. Children are apparently also affected.

There were violent riots on Saturday evening around the Bundesliga game Eintracht Frankfurt against VfB Stuttgart (1:2). The Frankfurt police have now even set up a special commission (“SoKo2511”). The SoKo is supposed to use witness interviews and video recordings to find other violent perpetrators, among other things. The accusation, which is why the police want to hold the chaotic people accountable: “Serious breach of the peace and physical attacks on law enforcement officers.”

Around 50 police officers were injured in the operation against the chaos. Four had to be treated in a hospital. There are also injured law enforcement officers, rescue workers and stadium visitors. This is reported by the Frankfurt police. It is the bitter conclusion of a chaotic evening.

According to Eintracht board member Philipp Reschke, there were “massive clashes” between the police and Frankfurt fans before the game. “According to reports, there were injuries,” Reschke reported after the game.

There was a confrontation between Eintracht-Ultras and the police before the entrance to the northwest curve. Stuttgarters were not involved.

According to Reschke, there is “various information and different opinions” about the cause of the riots. According to the police, there was an emergency call before the game because law enforcement officers in the Frankfurt Arena had been harassed and attacked by Eintracht supporters.

Iron bars thrown at police officers

“The police forces were immediately attacked when they arrived and defended themselves with, among other things, irritants,” the police said via X. Apparently the controls in the stadium were adjusted and did not work as in the past. This is said to have displeased some fans. They threw bottles, iron bars and pyrotechnics at the police.

According to “BILD”, the officers used pepper spray and batons against the chaotic people. Innocent fans are also said to have been injured, including children. Many consider the police’s actions to be disproportionate. Apparently the officials were there with an exceptionally large contingent, even though the duel against Stuttgart had not been classified as a risky game in advance.

The police initially said that the riots had started from clashes between rival fan groups. “I can’t understand that at the moment. “I don’t have any information from anyone that would confirm that,” said Reschke on Saturday evening.

Hundreds of Eintracht ultra fans stayed away from the start of the game in protest against what they saw as the disproportionate police deployment. It wasn’t until the middle of the first half that the Frankfurt fan block where the Ultras were standing filled up again.
