Riots and Property Damage Prior to Hamburger SV vs Eintracht Braunschweig Match

Hamburg – In the run-up to the second division game Hamburger SV against Eintracht Braunschweig (2:1) there was serious damage to property and riots on a metronome train by Braunschweig “fans” on Friday afternoon.

A statement from the federal police on Saturday said: “During the journey, according to the current state of the federal police, Braunschweig ‘fans’, some of whom were drunk, rioted in a metronome upon arrival at Uelzen train station.”

And further: “According to witness statements, ceiling panels and tables on the train were deliberately damaged. A train compartment was massively dirty. There was also an assault and a theft.”

The federal police specifically received the rioters at Hamburg Central Station, recorded their personal details and initiated appropriate procedures. The investigation into this is ongoing.

According to the federal police, there were a total of around 2,900 away fans in Hamburg’s Volksparkstadion. More than 330 Braunschweig fans came to the Hanseatic city on appropriate trains and then reached the stadium by public transport.
