Rafael Borré: From Frankfurt Hero to Werder Bremen Reunion

After the last-minute departure of striker Niclas Füllkrug to BVB, SV Werder Bremen brought in a well-known replacement in Rafael Borré on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt. This weekend there will be a reunion between the Colombian and the SGE. The attacker is still disappointed by the circumstances of the separation.

When Eintracht Frankfurt sensationally won the Europa League last year, Rafael Borré became a celebrated hero as the scorer of the decisive penalty. The offensive man has since enjoyed cult status among many Hesse fans.

However, after the biggest triumph in the club’s history, things went downhill for him in terms of sport; after the arrival of Randal Kolo Muani, Borré was only used as a joker.

“It was extraordinary that it changed so quickly: I was just a very important player in the club, I was able to give something to the club and help win the Europa League and thus qualify for the Champions League for the first time,” recalled the national player now in an interview with “Sport Bild”.

This is how he got to know the “brutality of the football business”. “It was also the first time that I had ever experienced this in my career, that I found myself in such a different situation so quickly,” admitted Borré.

Rafael Borré missed honesty at Eintracht Frankfurt

When Dino Toppmöller was hired as the new coach in the summer, Borré was completely sidelined. On the last day of the summer transfer period, he was loaned out to Werder Bremen.

“I was told in 2022 that I was important for the team. But then I didn’t play the role I had hoped for. At the beginning of this season, those in charge were very honest and made it clear to me that I wouldn’t be used much “I would have wished for this honesty a year earlier,” emphasized the 28-year-old.

The Colombian has now fought for a regular place on the Weser. Most recently he scored his second goal of the season in the 2-2 draw in Wolfsburg. On Sunday (5:30 p.m.) there will be a reunion with Eintracht in the Weserstadion.

Borré, who is under contract in Frankfurt until 2025 and was loaned out without a purchase option, can certainly imagine staying in Bremen for a longer period of time.

“Yes, I also said that to my teammates and those in charge. Werder is one of the most traditional clubs in Germany, with a lot of fans and a lot of history. I feel like I’m needed here,” revealed the striker.
