Portugal has completed the qualifying period for the European Championship in Germany without losing any points. Roberto Martinez’s team also won the last match against Iceland without too many problems and can therefore boast a perfect score: 30 out of 30.
There wasn’t much at stake anymore for Portugal against Iceland. The Portuguese were already assured of a group win and a place in pot 1 in the draw.
Yet national coach Roberto Martinez fielded his strongest team, we know how important he finds qualifying matches. Iceland simply fell for the axe.
Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Ricardo Horta, one before and one after half-time, gave Martinez a carefree evening.
Thanks to the new victory, Portugal is the only country to take the maximum number of points in the qualifications this year, Slovakia was already assured of second place.
