Play-off for promotion to Euro 2024: Poland in the semi-finals against Estonia

The third team from the “Czech” qualifying group, Poland, will welcome Estonia in the semi-finals of the play-off for promotion to the European Championship. In the event of a win, they will play in the final of Group A on the field of the better of the pair Wales – Finland. It was decided by today’s draw at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon. The semi-finals are scheduled for March 26, the final for March 31. In both cases, one match will be played.

The participants in the play-off were decided by their placement in the League of Nations. Some pairs were predetermined, the rest were determined by today’s draw, which also decided the organization of all matches. The winner of each of the three groups secures participation in the championship, which will take place in Germany next year. So far, 21 teams, including the Czech national team, are certain to participate.

Surprisingly, the Poles are still missing among those who advance, who finished in third place in the qualification, behind the winners Albania and the Czech Republic. They can make up for it in the playoffs, in case of failure, they would be missing among the European elite for the first time since 2008.

Group B in the playoffs consists of Bosnia and Herzegovina – Ukraine and Israel – Iceland. The final of the group could thus be played on a neutral ground, as Ukraine has not been able to play home matches in its own country since the beginning of the Russian military aggression. The October duel with North Macedonia took place at Letná in Prague. In the same way, Israel had to play its last home game in an asylum after the attack by Palestinian radicals from the Hamas movement and the declaration of a state of war.

In Group C, three teams will attack for their first participation in the Euros. In the semi-finals, Georgia will play Luxembourg and Greece will play Kazakhstan, the winner of the first pair will host the final. Only the Greeks have played in the final tournament in the past, in 2004 they even became European champions.
