On the afternoon of Friday 10 November, after the official presentation of the project last September, the first crossing on the parquet between Pistoia Basketball e Gonzaga University. On the one hand, a selection from the red and white youth sector, on the other, a group of kids who, in the States, had already been familiar with the world of basketball and who are now studying in the Tuscan headquarters of “Gonzaga in Florence”.
A truly important moment, for now only the first of a long series as established between the two realities during last summer. An opportunity for the team of American kids to form a group and to get to know the reality of Estra Pistoia Basket up close with some of them who have already had the opportunity to appreciate what it means to enter the PalaCarrara breathing in the Serie A atmosphere, having been guests during some of the matches played so far by the red and white team.
On the other hand, for the young players of the Pistoia Basket Academy, the opportunity – albeit in a friendly match – to compete with players who are a few years older than them but who have already had university experiences overseas linked to basketball. The friendly match was played at a rather intense pace with the Gonzaga boys who demonstrated excellent understanding, not forgetting some spectacular plays. For the record, the game ended with a 92-74 victory for Gonzaga.
This first scrimmage is a great source of pride for Pistoia Basket 2000. In the coming weeks, further activities will be communicated which will increasingly consolidate the existing synergy, a rarity for the world of Italian basketball.
