Paris Basketball Loses to BCM Despite Early Dominance

Paris Basketball did not miss its reunion with Jean-Christophe Prat, at the helm of the club from its birth in 2018 until its accession and maintenance in Betclic Élite four years later. Now on the BCM bench, TJ Parker’s former assistant at Asvel lost on Saturday evening at the Halle Carpentier (97-78). His Northerners, however, made Paris doubt for more than a quarter.

The skill of Caleb Walker (17 points) and the impact of Landry Nnoko (11 points, 9 rebounds) under the circle gave early headaches to the runner-up from Monaco (19-28, 8th). But the response was scathing. In six minutes, Tuomas Iisalo’s players inflicted a 21-2 on BCM concluded by a mid-distance basket from the metronome TJ Shorts and a winning shot from Collin Malcolm (40-30, 14th).

Defeated by Roanne last weekend then Besiktas in the Eurocup, Paris this time maintained their grip, in the wake of Shorts (11 points, 9 assists). Rare ray of sunshine for Gravelines: Walker’s spectacular dunk on the head of Enzo Shahrvin (62-49, 26th) for the action of the evening. At the end of a quiet end to the match, notably ensured by Nadir Hifi (24 points, 4 assists), Paris retained its second place, behind Monaco. The BCM remains 17th and will host Cholet in an advanced match of the 14th day.

Silence, Cholet sinks

The statistics are chilling for Cholet Basket: in November, the Mauges club only won one of its matches, in all competitions. And the only success to the credit of Laurent Vila’s men was obtained at the start of the month (the 7th), in the Champions League. In the Championship, the shortage is becoming worrying: 5 defeats in a row, and the last one, conceded on Saturday evening in Saint-Quentin, only once again reflected the immense difficulties of the Mauges club in attack (75-60 defeat).

27

Cholet scored 27 of his 60 points at the free throw line.

The SQBB only had to feed off the extreme clumsiness of the visitors (25.9% shooting!) to widen the gap during the second quarter (42-28 at the break). The locals were never behind in the game and even had up to 18 points in advance thanks to Loïc Schwartz (12 points) or Mathis Dossou-Yovo (10 points, 7 rebounds). The two teams now find themselves tied in the Betclic Élite rankings (6 wins, 7 losses) and are only two wins ahead of Limoges (4v-6d), first relegation. Suffice to say that the next meeting for Cholet, at the penultimate place, promises to be crucial.

Le Portel remains positive

The kind of stress that Le Portel is avoiding for the moment, thanks to a difficult victory at home against Dijon (81-75). If Eric Girard’s men, who were left with a defeat in Strasbourg (90-75), muzzled the main opposing threat rather well, namely pocket leader David Holston (10 points on 4 out of 12 shooting), they failed to capitalize on the small cushion obtained before the break (37-31, 20th). Dijon even took control at the start of the final period (53-55, 30th) but the locals quickly took control (68-67) and never let go until the final buzzer. The great skill displayed on the throws (29 out of 31) greatly contributed to the result.

Seventh with a positive result (7v-6d), the ESSM remains a small step ahead of a long list of teams engaged in a merciless fight for survival. Among which is Dijon (5v-8d), sixteenth behind Limoges (4v-6d) which has a better percentage due to the three victories which have so far been withdrawn from it.
