Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands: On the Value of the Tiny – Sport

Honiara’s Maranatha Hall in the Burns Creek district is one of those Pacific Games venues that demonstrate the advantage of modesty. The hall for the weightlifting competitions is actually not a hall at all, but rather a large barn without side walls. Sometimes birds get lost in the rafters of the corrugated iron roof. From the spectator seats you can see the palm trees of the neighboring green area. And the wind blows unhindered across the stage and rows of plastic chairs, which not only blows up the flags of the 24 participating countries, but also cools down the hot, tropical capital of the Solomon Islands.
