Pacific Games 2023: Honiara to Host 24 Countries and 5,000 Athletes

Since their creation in 1963, the Pacific Games have brought together the island sporting communities of Oceania every 4 years. From November 19 to December 2, 24 countries and 5,000 athletes will represent themselves in Honiara, in the Solomon Islands.

During the two weeks the football, sailing and tennis competitions will take place, from November 17 to 25 there will be karate, swimming, volleyball, table tennis, golf, archery, rugby 7-a-side, 5×5 basketball, judo and weightlifting. Then from November 27 to December 2, triathlon, beach volleyball, athletics, taekwondo, boxing, body building, 3×3 basketball, va’a, kayaking and powerlifting. Polynesia came 4th at the last games in Samoa in 2019, with a total of 119 medals (35 gold, 39 silver and 45 bronze) compared to 182 medals for New Caledonia which rose to first place.

The 3 stations in the Pacific basin (Wallis, NC and Polynesia) combine their resources to offer our audiences TV/Radio/Web coverage. The football, swimming, beach volleyball, boxing, triathlon, basketball and volleyball disciplines will be commented on by journalists from Polynésie La 1ère (Hervé Marzin and Maruki Dury) and Nouvelle-Calédonie La 1ère (Martin Charmasson, Mathieu Ruizbarreau and Christian Favennec) . New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna and Polynesia have given themselves the mission not only to promote this event through our respective branches but also to be the link between our athletes and the public who support them.

During the event, in addition to comments provided by the editorial staff of Polynesia and New Caledonia La 1ère, a team of journalists (Ariihoe Tefaafana, Sandro Ly and Gilles Tautu) will be on site in Honiara to bring us the highlights of these meetings every evening in the newspapers in Tahitian and French but also on the radio from the morning meeting and of course on the web with photos and articles at the heart of this edition of the Pacific Games.
