“Ousmane Sonko told me that he has not given up his candidacy”

Ousmane Sonko’s request for his activists to sponsor Bassirou Diomaye Faye spread the idea that the opposition leader had given up his candidacy. Which Dame Mbodj denied.

According to the trade unionist and close to Ousmane Sonko, the latter strongly believes in his participation in the 2024 Presidential election. “Ousmane Sonko is a candidate for the 2024 presidential election (…) Before separating from Sonko after a long discussion on current political events in Senegal, he told me, Lady, I am the Pastef candidate, and I firmly believe that I will participate in these elections. That is to say that he is not considering a plan B, Ousmane Sonko, has not given up his candidacy, the fact that he nominated Bassirou Diomaye Faye is only a strategy to thwart the power, but I’m not saying it can’t be plan B”underlined Dame Mbodj.

“He told me that he is not interested in power. ‘I’m not putting myself forward, don’t worry. You know that power has never interested me, that what interests me is that the country is brought back to rights and if there is reason to go to elections that the people choose the best profile, and I have to, I will take my responsibilities. Because in 2024, Macky Sall must leave, he and his acolytes’”said Dame Mbodj.
