The festivities will start on Friday December 8 with the traditional Christmas market which will take place in the public garden. The twenty or so barnums will be deployed around the bandstand until Sunday December 10 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. (7 p.m. on Sunday). The municipality has decided to bring forward the holding of the Christmas market by three weeks in order to allow Oloron residents to do their shopping.
“Previously, it took place too close to the big day. It was mainly used to do some last-minute shopping. Many traders regretted this,” explains Anne Barbet, deputy mayor in charge of associations. This event will bring together twenty-two creators and seven producers from Béarn, selected by the community, supported by the intercommunality.
These craftsmen will have the mission of guiding visitors “towards choices of quality products to put under the tree or on the festive tables”. They will offer activities and demonstrations related to their activity, at the appropriate time in relation to the crowd. Food trucks will serve lunch and dinner in this village.
►Music and entertainment
The three evenings of the Christmas market will also be animated with music. On Friday December 8 in the evening, it is the Pau batucada Étoile Métissée, dressed in its disguises, which will inaugurate the event (7 p.m.-10 p.m.). On Saturday evening, the Wonderful Guinguette, from Navarrenx, will put on the show (6 p.m.-10 p.m.) before the Municipal Harmony closes the ball on Sunday (at 3:30 p.m.) by playing under the bandstand.
As for entertainment, we should also note the show “The Love of Two Oranges” offered by the Marionnettes Pas Sage company on Saturday December 9 at 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. But also the winter ball, the atmosphere of which will be provided by the Ritournelle orchestra in the Bel Automne hall, on Saturday December 9 (2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., paying). Finally, on the afternoon of Sunday, December 10, carriage rides will be on the program thanks to the Arnago stables. At the same time, the Ludopia park will also make wooden games available.
►The big return of the Telethon
New this year, the Christmas market will host the Telethon during the day of Saturday December 9 (from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.). This solidarity event disappeared from the calendar in 2021, due to a lack of volunteers to take over its organization.
It was the Union of Motorcyclists and Citizens which therefore took up the torch by carrying out the contract with the AFM-Téléthon. “We had been approached by the previous organizers but we were hesitant given the scale of the task. There, it’s a bit of a leap into the unknown, especially since everything was done somewhat at the last moment,” summarizes Maria Couchinave who co-chairs the association with Philippe Dennez and Alain Lacasta.
The Union of Bikers and Citizens will organize the Telethon in Oloron on December 9.

To raise funds, bikers will offer, weather permitting, motorcycle tours and will sell garbure as well as Christmas cakes. Fans are invited to bring their container if they want to take the famous soup home!
In this solidarity mission, the bikers will be accompanied by the Arcs du Haut-Béarn and the Dojo oloronais – aikido. The archers will, for example, set up an archery competition open to all with prizes up for grabs. The Garburade will also be there and will collect garbures prepared by local restaurateurs in order to sell them for the benefit of the Telethon.
The neighborhoods will light up
The launch of the illuminations in the city will take place during this first phase of the holidays. Currently being installed, these electric lights and garlands will operate from December 8 to January 5. The switching times will be modeled on those of public lighting, consistent with the sobriety plan adopted a year ago.
