ÖFB Cup: Salzburg and LASK narrowly escaped

As coach Gerhard Struber announced, Salzburg decided not to do much rotation. Oumar Solet (for Samson Baidoo) and Petar Ratkov (for Dario Simic) were the only changes compared to the 3-0 win over Altach at the weekend. For a long time, the favorites had little idea against the home team, who once again appeared playful and courageous. Karim Konate only found his first really good opportunity shortly after the break, when Paul Komposch headed the ball clear just in front of the line (49′).

Even though Salzburg became more concrete, Hartberg remained aggressive. Only two minutes after Entrup was substituted on, the time had come: After losing the ball in midfield, the ball came via Komposch to the TSV goalgetter, who shot into the far corner. Salzburg seemed a bit at a loss, but struck back ten minutes later. Andreas Ulmer maneuvered a long cross to the far corner into the center, where Ratkov scored his second competitive goal for the series champions.

Salzburg manages to draw 1-1 against Hartberg (77th minute)

The following teams will meet in the third round of the ÖFB Cup on Wednesday evening: Kapfenberg vs. LASK, Hartberg vs. Salzburg and

At the end of regular time, Entrup had a great chance to take the lead again, but found its master in Alexander Schlager (86th). Salzburg dominated extra time, but Ratkov was denied by Raphael Sallinger (105′). On the other side, Donis Avdijaj’s attempt went just wide of the corner (100′). In the penalty shootout, Avdijaj, of all people, was unlucky; he failed in the Styrians’ fifth and final attempt due to Alexander Schlager.

LASK misses opportunity after opportunity

LASK also had a hard time in Kapfenberg in the first half, and the Upper Austrians only had their best chance after the break. Goalie Richard Strebinger destroyed Ibrahim Mustapha’s solo opportunity and saved shortly afterwards against Thomas Goiginger (61′). By then the Linzers had the reins in their hands; after 90 minutes they had to be accused of having made too little use of their opportunities.

Kapfenberg – LASK: Penalty shootout

The following teams will meet in the third round of the ÖFB Cup on Wednesday evening: Kapfenberg vs. LASK, Hartberg vs. Salzburg and

In extra time, the guests, who continued to defend with commitment and massed defense, successfully defended themselves against the Linz power play, Joker Moussa Kone only hit the bar (113th), Peter Michorl was incorrectly called back for offside when the score was supposed to be 1-0 (115th). In the final, only Kapfenberg’s Lukas Walchhütter lost his nerve and his attempt fell victim to Linz Cup goalie Jörg Siebenhandl.

Asllani shoots Austria into the quarter-finals

Fisnik Asllani (24th) shot Wiener Austria back into the quarter-finals after a two-year break. The Carinthians had recently made it to the quarter-finals three times in a row, but were unable to break the Viennese goal barrier that had lasted for 615 minutes.

In front of 11,223 fans, the home side let the ball run better as the first half progressed, and Asllani took his second opportunity to take the lead. Manfred Fischer, who was moved into the starting line-up, extended a pass from Marvin Potzmann to Asllani, who was successful with the lob over Philipp Menzel. It was the third goal in the last four games for the German-Kosovan, who is on loan from Hoffenheim.

Vienna Austria is in the quarterfinals

Vienna Austria made it to the quarterfinals of the Uniqa ÖFB Cup on Wednesday. The “Veilchen” won 1-0 (1-0) at home against Austria from Klagenfurt. The match winner was Fisnik Asllani in the 24th minute.

Klagenfurt responded with rather harmless headers from Christopher Wernitznig (26th) and Sinan Karweina (32nd). In the competitive midfield, Peter Pacult’s weakened men often came a step too late. After 29 minutes, midfield center Turgay Gemicibasi/Rico Benatelli received a yellow card.

Andreas Gruber missed the great chance to make it 2-0. The striker put the ball over a little hastily after a pass from Manuel Polster (35′). Mirko Kos, who once again guarded the Vienna goal in the cup instead of the nominal number one Christian Früchtl, was able to rely on the people in front of him even after the change. Although the Klagenfurt team increased the number of hits, the Vienna defense usually intercepted the attacks as they developed.

Klagenfurt too harmless

A narrow miss from Florian Jaritz (56th) was the guests’ most concrete opportunity for a long time. The hosts were more dangerous, but at the same time careless, on the counterattack. Matthias Braunöder failed to defend Menzel’s foot from close range (77′), Romeo Vucic shot past the empty goal after Ranftl’s cross pass (86′). This no longer mattered when Klagenfurt suffered its first away defeat of the season. Nikola Djoric put the last Carinthian glimmer of hope next to the goal.
