The media conference for “NTT JAPAN RUGBY LEAGUE ONE 2023-24” (Japan Rugby League One), which starts on Saturday, December 9th, was held at a hotel in Tokyo on Friday, November 24th. In addition to the media, 23 players from 23 teams from Divisions 1 to 3 of League One also attended, as well as fans who were invited to the venue by lottery for the first time.

“First of all, the first thing is “League One in the world.” Expectations for League One are increasing all over the world.At the recent World Cup 2023 final, both teams had a total of 14 players in League One. They were players from our own team, and some of the top-level players who were participating in the World Cup are also participating.”
“In February next year, Super Rugby’s Chiefs and Blues will come to Japan for a ‘cross-border match☆’ and play against the top four teams from last season’s League One. Going forward, there will be no need for League One in world rugby. I want to make this a league that doesn’t have to be.”

“Next, we want to further expand our fan base.This year, we launched a company called Japan Rugby Marketing with the Japan Rugby Union, League One, Sony, and NTT Docomo.We will use digital technology to make it easier to buy tickets, etc. We will try to increase the number of fans even more.”
“Each team has gained the know-how and is working hard together with the local community. Last year we had 750,000 spectators, but we hope to reach 1 million this season or at the latest by the fourth season.”
