Novak Djokovic Finishes Year in First Place for Eighth Time

At 36 years old, Novak Djokovic finished for the eighth time in his career in first place in the world hierarchy at the end of the year, according to the ATP rankings published this Monday. The American Pete Sampras and the Swiss Roger Federer have achieved this six and five times respectively.

Winner of his seventh Masters on Sunday, the Serbian also begins his 400th week as world number 1, now far ahead of Roger Federer (310 weeks) and Pete Sampras (286 weeks).

Twelve French people in the top 100

Djokovic is 2,390 points ahead of his runner-up, Carlos Alcaraz, in a ranking which has not seen any changes in the Top 20. As for the French, there are twelve to enter the Top 100 this Monday. Among them, Ugo Humbert leads the French troop and ends the year ranked 20th in the world, two places ahead of his compatriot Adrian Mannarino (22nd). Benjamin Bonzi, 73rd, Gaël Monfils, 74th, and Richard Gasquet, 76th, all moved up three places. Quentin Halys, 99th, on the other hand, fell three places.
