Novak Djokovic Criticizes Opponent’s Fans for Lack of Respect in Davis Cup Win

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic criticized the opponent’s fans for their lack of respect after winning over Great Britain in the quarterfinals of the Davis Cup.

Djokovic defeated Cameron Norrie twice 6-4 in the second singles to advance to Serbia. During the interview, he first lashed out at the noisy fans: “Learn to respect the players, learn to respect the people. Shut up, be quiet.”

Subsequently, he stated that they tried to throw him the whole match.

“They showed a lack of respect, but you have to be prepared for that in Davis Cup,” said the winner of a record 24 Grand Slams. “When the fans overdo it, you have to speak up so they know you won’t tolerate something like that,” added Djokovic.

“The whole match they tried to throw me, so we had to clarify it a bit at the end,” said the 36-year-old tennis player, who is waiting for Italy in Saturday’s semi-finals with the Serbian selection.

“A part of me is already looking forward to putting my racket down and resting, but I can’t think about free time yet,” said Djokovic, who would like to lead Serbia to a second Davis Cup triumph after 13 years.
