Novák already has an edge, says Olomouc coach Jílek. With the returner, he is counting on the stopper

If the Hanáci managed to register Novák a few hours earlier on Friday, the 28-time Czech international would have already started in the north of Bohemia, where the guests drew 1:1.

“Although it was assumed that the administrative matters would be completed, we could not afford to take risks when we were not 100% sure that it would be finished before training. It didn’t last until the evening hours. That’s why we clearly decided that we will go into the match without Filip and possibly use him during the match. Otherwise, the player is ready,” explained Jílek.

The former player of Jablonec, Midtjylland, Trabzonspor, Fenerbahce and most recently Al Jazira has been training with Sigma since the summer, but he still believed that an engagement abroad would still work out. In the last two weeks, he ran out of patience and signed up for Jílko’s team until the end of the season.

“Filda has been training with us for three months. We wanted him to sign it, but he kept waiting. Now we are happy that he has already signed. I’m looking forward to seeing him play,” said Olomouc’s top scorer Lukáš Juliš.

“Filip already has an edge now, because he works very well in the cabin for the team. He has experience, he passes on information. How many times have we talked about matches together, analyzed them. He often came up with interesting observations. He thinks about what he would do in given situations, and on the contrary, he asked me how I, on the other hand, perceive them as a coach and what I want from the players. He is a good addition to the cabin as well,” admits Jílek.

On the field with the 33-year-old quarterback, he mainly counts on the stopper. “Either in the trio, where I think he would probably have the best position on the field, but it will certainly not be a problem for him to play stopper even in a four-man defense. We missed the left-footed stopper in the passing game, and he will increase the competition,” Jílek praises Novák’s contribution, of which he is convinced.

“Although he hasn’t played a sharp match since January, I always say that such experienced players deal with it much better on the field,” says the coach from Olomouc. “I’m fine physically, I just lack match practice, but I feel good, which is important,” admits the native of Přerov. The last time Filip Novák started in the Czech league was in August 2015 in Jihlava, he should experience a renewed premiere on Sunday with Slavia.
