Nine games, nine wins. The path of the Jolly Acli basketball Livorno, in the women’s B series championship, therefore remains immaculate, thanks to the success achieved at the Cosmelli against Bf Pontedera, a notoriously difficult team for Ceccarini and her teammates, overcome 67-55, without major worries. The match was decided already in the first quarter, when the Rosabu played their best basketball, gaining a significant advantage, which was ultimately a decisive result. In the second part of the match there was a mental decline, which allowed the guests to raise their heads and get closer. In the decisive part, Livorno closed ranks and raced to collect the two points, which, despite still having two matches to play in the first round, proclaim them “winter champions”. And once again four players finished in double figures. Now we don’t even have time to say that on Wednesday there is another commitment, an internal one, in the recovery against San Giovanni Valdarno.
The words of coach Stefano Corda:
“A game approached well, as demonstrated by the 24-7 at the end of the first quarter. A match that we immediately attacked, recovering balls, running on the counterattack, channeling it on the tracks we wanted. In the second quarter there was a moment of difficulty in attack, which we however compensated for well, maintaining good defensive solidity. And we went into halftime, deservedly in my opinion, at plus 17, 35-18, with the situation in control. Upon returning to the field, we hoped to make the final push, but, once we reached plus 20, as often happens, we disunited, allowing our opponents to return to minus six; however, in the final moments we did well to regain our composure and win the match deservedly.
One aspect we need to work on is the offensive rebounds granted to the opponent. Something not done well on Saturday, but, being the first of three close matches, we are convinced that it was important to win, even in a dirty way, paying attention to the point and the result. The biggest steps forward we need to make are on the defensive side, rather than in attack, where we often manage to find good solutions.”
