Niners Chemnitz Secure Early Qualification for Fiba Europe Cup Round of 16

The Niners Chemnitz basketball players qualified early for the round of 16 of the Fiba Europe Cup with their fifth win in the fifth group game. The Bundesliga club clearly defeated the Polish representative Spojnia Stargard on Wednesday at home with 97:75 (41:36) and thus remained unbeaten in the twelfth competitive game in a row. Wesley van Beck (20), Tylor Ongwae (16), Jeffery Garrett (14), Ousman Krubally (13) and Aher Uguak (10) played the biggest role in the success. Arguster Daniels (19), Wesley Gordon (12) and Aleksandar Langovic (11) scored the most points for Stargard.

The hosts didn’t let their 2:10 false start (3rd) throw them off track. Five minutes later the Saxons had equalized at 12:12 and turned things up in the second quarter. Coach Rodrigo Pastore’s team converted the 22:23 deficit (13th) into a 41:33 lead (19th).

As the playing time increased, the opponent from Poland reduced their strength. The Chemnitz team went from 50:40 (22nd) to 70:46 (28th) within six minutes and were able to save energy for the Bundesliga in the final quarter. Above all, the Saxons were no longer in trouble thanks to their accuracy from beyond the three-point line. 17 of the 29 throws landed in the Polish basket.
