Newcastle takes revenge and knocks United out of the Carabao Cup

West Ham, Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton, Fulham, Port Vale and Middlesbrough advance to the quarter-finals and Arsenal fall

MADRID, 2 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Newcastle has eliminated Manchester United from the Carabao Cup in the round of 16 and has gained revenge for the final lost last year, with a tough defeat also for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and a place in the quarterfinals for West Ham, Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton, Fulham, Port Vale and Middlesbrough.

Goals from Miguel Almirón, Lewis Hall and Joe Willock gave Newcastle a ticket to the quarterfinals. The ‘magpies’ overcame the ‘red devils’ with authority at Old Trafford, which was previously assaulted with the same result by Manchester City in the derby on the last day of the Premier League.

Eddie Howe and his Newcastle took revenge for the defeat in last year’s Carabao Cup final at the hands of United, with a 0-2 lead at half-time that laid the foundations for a much celebrated victory and that allowed the northern team of England to dream high in their recent fetish competition.

The other surprise – in a negative way – of the night was that of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, with a defeat against West Ham (3-1) at the Olympic Stadium in London, with an initial goal from Ben White and the Last minute ‘make-up’ by Martin Odegaard to put the final score at 96′.

Fulham also advance to the quarterfinals, after beating Ipswich (1-3), Everton after beating Burnley (3-0), Liverpool after beating Bournemouth (1-2)) thanks to Cody Gakpo and Darwin Núñez and the Chelsea, who beat Blackburn Rovers at home (2-0) with goals, one in each half, from Benoit Badiahsile and Raheem Sterling. Port Vale (0-1 against Mansfield) and Middlesbrough (who beat Exeter City 2-3) will also be in the pot.
