New York Knicks miss out on Bruce Brown as Defensive Reinforcement and Outside Player

Donte DiVincenzo signed with the New York Knicks as soon as free agency began in July. However, he was not the first option that the New York franchise considered to reinforce its defense and outside play.

According to the journalist of the New York Post, Stefan Brody, Bruce Brown met electronically with coach Tom Thibodeau and the New York management before he decided to sign with the Indiana Pacers. “Thibs has always been a fan of mine, even when I was drafted and he was in Minnesota,” Brown said. “But this was the first time he really had a chance to get me.”

Thibodeau was the main supporter of adding Brown to the Knicks ‘mix’ and convinced team president Leon Rose to bid for him. However, the Knicks were not able to compete with Indiana’s offer, which reached two years and $45 million. In New York they limited themselves to putting on the table the 12.4 million of their mid-level exception.

Brown has started his first four games with the Pacers after becoming NBA champion in Denver. His averages rise to 12.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists.
