New Judge Training in Brandenburg: Diverse Participants and Successful Exams

In a cherished tradition, the new judge training took place again this year together with Brandenburg. Six judoka from Berlin, 12 from Brandenburg and one from Saxony took part.

This time the participants are very diverse: active competitive athletes, Bundesliga fighters, a two-time Olympic starter, a Japanese, but also older people and amateur athletes.

On the first weekend at the end of May in Strausberg, we had to go through the rules point by point. This strenuous journey was lightened up by lots of anecdotes from the two course leaders, René Ressler (Brandenburg) and Daniel Wernicke (Berlin), both Federal A referees. In the afternoon there was team building with bowling, whereby the worst candidate was able to make up for his performance with a karaoke singing performance. The participants spent the long Saturday evening with pizza and video analysis. There wasn’t much time to sleep. While on Saturday the program was more about positive judo in the form of ratings, on Sunday it was about negative judo – specifically about the penalties – and the first trial arbitration with the support of the care system. It’s always funny for everyone involved how something that looks so easy on the mat and is often criticized from the outside is not so easy in reality and how mistakes occur especially on the first attempts.

Further training judges

At the same time, Maik Sinkwitz, BJV’s deputy referee officer, led the training for the active referees. Ten judges from Berlin and Brandenburg are taking the opportunity to extend their license and get up to date with the latest rules and interpretations.

The third day of the course for the new trainees took place at the beginning of June in the Sportforum Berlin. Thomas Jüttner, President of the JVB, Vice President of the DJB, IJF-A judge and member of the JVB Judges Commission, did not miss the opportunity to personally greet those present. This time the course content should include the youth rules and the theory test.

The exams then took place at the BVMM U11 and the JC03 challenge cup in September. Under the watchful eyes of the two examiners Robert Blümel (member of the JVB judges’ commission) and Daniel Wernicke (deputy judges’ officer of the JVB), the examinees showed what they had learned. After just a few hours, the examiners were convinced of the candidates, so they could finish the exam and welcome their new colleague.

Congratulations to: Salvina Bork (SF Kladow ShidoSha), Lindo Sugata (PSV Olympia), Taylor Laskowski (TuS Wannsee), Timo and Vincent Cordes (both SC Berlin) and Michael Nikitins (EBJC).

“The referee community wishes our new colleagues good luck and always good luck.”

We would also like to thank KSC Strausberg, PSV Olympia, KKKarow, JC03 and SV Motor Babelsberg for their support with the training.
