Federico Peretti/Pianetabasket

PREVIEW: The highly advanced Salento team fresh from five consecutive victories visits a Tezenis Verona team fresh from the burning knockout in the sprint in Piacenza, for the absent hosts Massone and Bartoli who significantly reduce the rotations available to coach Ramagli but the guests will probably have to once again giving up their star Russ Smith, the top scorer in the entire league averaging over 22 points. Ball at two o’clock 8.30pm raised by Messrs Bertuccioli, Barbiero and Lupelli with live text on Pianetabasket.com

1ST PERIOD: Penna, Devoe, Udom, Esposito and Murphy, the five Veronese players at tap-off, Parravicini, Nikolic, Latorre, Stewart and Iannuzzi for the guests. Everything starts in the name of Murphy who scores all the Tezenis points and flies to dunk on Devoe’s usual alley-oop, Di Carlo prefers to stop the game (6-2 -7’44”). Upon returning to the parquet it is Iannuzzi who go wild but a solid Esposito keeps the yellow and blue one lap ahead (14-10 -3’58”), from the bench Nardò finds energy and points with Baldasso and Borra and overtakes (14-17) when entering the last two laps of the game partial. Final skirmishes that close the period with the result of 18-19 for the Granata

2ND PERIOD: The American duo Devoe-Murphy puts the ball back on the ball for the home team but the balance remains almost total and at the halfway point of the half the score is tied at 25; the triples by Nikolic and Latorre compensate for Veronese’s mid-range baskets and the free throws by Udom (32-32 -3’30”) and they continue arm in arm as the minutes pass. The triples by Nikolic and Penna make it 38- 38 with which the teams enter the locker room of a match so far without any particular breaks and which promises to be very intense also in the second half. Murphy the top scorer with 10 points (with 4 rebounds) while the best for Nardò is Iannuzzi with 8 followed by Latorre (7)

3rd PERIOD: Pace that struggles to pick up, the defenses keep their respective attacks well under control; Penna tries to light up with a triple and a spectacular layup, it’s certainly not a break but Di Carlo prefers to stop the game (47-43 -5’31”). Tezenis fails to give continuity to the good moment and Iannuzzi with Stewart’s help keeps the guests in touch (56-55 -2’37”), in the final rounds there are only a few points from the free throw line and in the 30th minute the absolute parity persists: 57-57

4TH PERIOD: Stewart begins to take the stage and gives the guest the maximum advantage, forcing Ramagli to time out (59-63 -7’32”), the gap widens to 6 points then the same triple action by Devoe, foul committed on Murphy who from the line and technical to coach Di Carlo with Tezenis who finds themselves with an episode at -1 (65-66 -5’27”) thanks to a 5-point possession. Devoe and Penna overtake and extend the yellow-blue break (69-66 -2’49”) which interrupts Maspero from 6.75 for parity to 69 entering the final 2′ of the match. The tension slows down the teams who cannot find the more correct choices, it is a tap-in by Ferrara with 31″ from the end that brings the Granata closer to victory. Esposito earns a trip to the line after Stefanelli’s error and hits it at 14″. The winning shot is from Maspero, it doesn’t go in but in the rebound battle the whistle comes against Penna with Tezenis not in the bonus so with only 8 hundredths on the clock it’s a throw-in for coach Di Carlo’s team who can’t even take a shot: extra time

OVERTIME: Baskets by Stefanelli and Murphy in the first 2′ of extra time push Verona ahead (75-71) with Nardò persisting with no luck only with the shot from beyond the three-point arc. Tezenis limits herself to grabbing rebounds but wastes the knockout shot and in the end Stewart finds the net from outside (75-74 -51″), Penna approaches for the +3 (77-74 -33″) with time- out guest to manage what could be the decisive possession of the match. Masterfully designed game, Baldasso comes out of the blocks and finds 77 equal to -22″ and therefore it is up to Ramagli to draw the last attack of the match. Penna in penetration does not find the basket but Murphy in tap-in causes the PalaOlimpia to explode. Illusion given that Latorre finds the basket from his half of the field at the edge of the siren with the prayer that gives the sixth victory in a row to Nardò who wins 79-80 on the Veronese pitch

COMMENT: A race in constant balance (maximum advantage on both sides was just 6 points) which ends with the episode that rewards a tough Nardò capable of extending her winning streak to six. Iannuzzi’s masterful performance (16 points with 8 rebounds and 25 rating) is completed by the basket of a Latorre who still had an impact throughout the 45′ of play (13). In the local ranks the best is Murphy (18 and 10 rebounds) well supported by Esposito (14 and 9 rebounds) and Penna (16 and 6 assists)
