Napoli’s Search for a New Head Coach: Igor Tudor No Longer the Top Choice

Expected to succeed Rudi Garcia in Naples, Igor Tudor would no longer be the number 1 option for the reigning Italian champions.

Free since his departure from Olympique de Marseille last summer, Igor Tudor risks having to wait a little longer before returning to service. The Croatian technician, who has kept a very good rating in Italy after his time at the head of Hellas Verona, sees things getting complicated for his arrival in Naples.

Tudor was expected to take over from Rudi Garcia at the helm of the reigning Italian champions. He would even have given his agreement to the Partenopei. But Napoli could finally turn to a veteran of the house, Walter Mazzarri, who officiated on the banks of Vesuvius between 2009 and 2013.

What made the difference between the two coaches? According to Fabrizio Romano, Mazzarri would agree to a seven-month contract, to play duty and finish the season, while Tudor wanted a two-season contract instead.

Neapolitan President Aurelio de Laurentiis is still considering, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, whether Mazzarri or Tudor would be the best choice to embody the change. In any case, Naples must also manage the situation of Rudi Garcia, whose fate has not officially been resolved. “In the absence of communication from the club, (Garcia) should report to Castel Volturno on Wednesday, but to think that he can still manage Naples is an insult to everyone’s intelligence”summarized by the Gazzetta dello Sport.
